**SPOILER ALERT!!!**
Again, I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this book already, since I’ve read it a few times already. This book continues my plan to reread the entire Percy Jackson series (and finally move on to The Heroes of Olympus) and I’m excited that I only have 3 more to go!
I love this book. I read The Adventures of Ulysses back in grade 7, so I was familiar with the monsters, Circe, the sirens, and of course, Polyphemus. I didn’t find the book all that entertaining (I was 12), so when I read The Sea of Monsters it was like a much more entertaining retelling.
Of course the book had to start off with more trouble involving Percy at his new school. I really liked how Tyson was introduced and how he’s Percy’s half brother, which is really cool cause I think Percy having a sibling is a great thing. Of course, he wasn’t too thrilled about it at first, but I’m glad he got to feel guilty for some time while he thought Tyson was dead.
The Gods really pissed me off in this book because they refuse to acknowledge Kronos’ threat and they fired Chiron! The new guy (can’t remember his name) sending Clarisse on that quest was absolutely hilarious, but I like how she’s less of a villain in this book.
Like I said, the adventures in the sea of monsters really interested me (and how it’s the Bermuda Triangle). I like how they encountered all sorts of creatures like Ulysses and how they were able to get the fleece in order to save Thalia’s tree. The battle at the very end was really well done and Luke is a trashcan.
I definitely forgot that the fleece worked “too well” and that it actually brought Thalia back to life! It was a great plot twist to begin with!
