review 1: Delilah seems cool, but she is very much a Mary Sue style Adventure Girl and the Lieutenant is interesting, but not interesting enough to be a sidekick in my opinion. I was bored halfway through the 2nd chapter and just plowed through the rest hoping it'd get good later. Nope. Some historical inaccuracies paired with that ridiculous looking boob window on top of these weird random fantasy elements? Meh. Oh and the contemporary sounding language? Whatever. The story just couldn't hold my attention. It was OK. Not terrible, not great. Just OK.
review 2: Tony Cliff plays a little free with history and realism here (a flying boat and an American West scene that doesn't seem to fit the timeframe), but the point doesn't seem to be reality, but a fast paced adventure.
... more Delilah is certainly a firecracker. She is out looking for excitement and danger. Selim, the Turkish Lieutenant, is more focused on peace, quiet, and a cup of tea until he crosses paths with Delilah. The book is certainly fun and full of action. Even though the story is from Selim's perspective, he is the sidekick for sure. Delilah is running the show. I zipped through the book in no time. less
