Hey there!
I’ve recently finished Diane Chamberlain’s The Silent Sister and I’d like to give a quick review and rating of it. This book was chosen by my book club (Books & Bottles) and I think it was the perfect book to kick things off with. If you would like to check out my last post, you can find it HERE.
Before you read any further, this is a spoiler post!
Getting into this book was very easy for me. It’s pretty fast paced with short chapters which I loved. It is perfect for picking up to read for a few minutes at a time.
I loved the way this book was written from multiple points of view. Seeing how Lisa and Riley’s lives come together was a nice touch. With that being said, I think it would have been nice for the author to go a little more into Danny’s background. I feel like his story or point of view would have really made the book more round and complete. The author could have easily made this story into a series using the points of view of Danny and the father.
I have a few criticisms….I wish the story line was so predictable. I figured out the “mystery” pretty early in the book so about the last half of the book was just piecing things together. I’m sure the story was meant to be that way, but I like to be a little more challenged than that. I would have also liked to see some more detail about Lisa’s actual case and her arrest. The ending was a little corny and gave a serious “happily ever after” vibe. Lisa is a fugitive…I feel like with all of this drama and build up, there should have been a part with her finally being arrested and going to court. I feel like that ending would have given the reader more resolve and closer with the story.
Overall, I did enjoy this book. I would recommend it to someone as an easy read. I gave it a 4/5 rating on GoodReads.
