From bestselling author A.J. Banner comes a dazzling new novel of psychological suspense in the vein of S.J. Watson’s Before I Go to Sleep and Mary Kubica’s The Good Girl that questions just how much we can trust the people around us.
Thirty-four-year-old marine biologist Kyra Winthrop remembers nothing about the diving accident that left her with a complex form of memory loss. With only brief flashes of the last few years of her life, her world has narrowed to a few close friendships on the island where she lives with her devoted husband, Jacob.
But all is not what it seems. Kyra begins to have visions—or are they memories?—of a rocky marriage, broken promises, and cryptic relationships with the island residents, whom she believes to be her friends.
As Kyra races to uncover her past, the truth becomes a terrifying nightmare. A twisty, immersive thriller, The Twilight Wife will keep readers enthralled through the final, shocking twist.
Readers Avenue Review: 3.00 stars
The first few chapters of the book was slow-paced. I felt that it was pure drama of a couple who are trying to fix their marriage. I might sound a little bitter, but I’m not really a fan of romantic novels, that’s why. The next few chapters was my favorite part of the novel. It was really thrilling and it kept me asking for more. The author wrote it in such a way that the readers will be confused whether Jacob is hiding something from Kyra or Kyra had been unfaithful to Jacob and had an affair with his husband’s best friend.
Towards the end of the story, it’s purely clues and and revelations and it would literally keep your eyes on the book. But your excitement will be cut short. I felt that the author rushed the ending of the story. It was so fast. It’s the total opposite of how detailed the intro is. It was supposedly the part where more action happens, but too bad, the ending really disappointed me.
Plot wise, it was written well. The characters are well-described and the organization of events were okay. the book really got me on the part where Kyra is starting to regain her memories. That was awesome! Secrets revealed, hello!!!
Overall, it’s a good read. I find it a little similar to Girl On the Train but more slow-paced. I’d still recommend it to all thrill-seekers out there. Anyway, this is just my opinion, maybe the story pace would just be okay with you.
