Counting down my top 5 favorite edits from Tall Black Guy all week long! (audio)
With Tall Black Guy coming to Niigata (the place in Japan where I reside) in just under a week, I thought I kick the hype train in full gear by counting down my top 5 favorite Tall Black Guy edits before his show. I chose to focus specifically on his edits because that’s a big part of what he’s known for and what I am most familiar with by the man. So without further ado, let’s get started!
Speaking of getting started, I gotta say Tall Black Guy’s edit/flip of the Sade classic is probably the best point of entry into his extensive catalogue of edits. It’s a tasteful flip of “Sweetest Taboo”, leaving the chorus/hook in tact while also keeping pretty close to the dreamy atmosphere of the original. Also those drums are just too nice; adding just the right amount of bounce without either being too soft or too out of place. It’s a pretty straight forward edit, nothing like the craziness of his 6/8 edit of “Stakes Is High” (which check back soon for that) and definitely functions as a great introduction to the man’s style if you’ve never heard his music before.
Make sure to check back everyday this week to see the rest of my list, and maybe a little something special next week.
