review 1: This is the sequel to Certain Slant of Light. I gave this a 3 instead of a 4 because I was comparing it (perhaps unfairly) to it's predecessor. I enjoyed having the opportunity to revisit and connect with two of the characters who were absent in the last book. I was interested to see what their story would bring. This story focuses on Jenny and Billy unfolding the mystery of their blackout period where they are away from their physical body. I can't put my finger on it but I feel like something is missing or was out of place for me. It might have been Helen. She comes and goes and to be honest her parts are the ones I enjoy the most. She becomes the mother Jenny needs in her time of struggle. There are beautifully sad parts but it wasn't enough for me to outright ... morerecommend someone read it. If you really enjoyed book one than I think you will naturally gravitate to the book.
review 2: I really loved "A Certain Slant of Light" but I admit it kind of bothered me the invasive use that Helen made of Jenny's body. At the end of the book, Helen floats away to peace, but she really leaves Jenny holding the bag. This book deals with the aftermath of that possession and gives readers some closure. I really enjoyed Jenny and Billy's story. They were two broken, lost souls badly in need of someone to care for them. I found Helen's presence in this book mostly annoying. There were times when it fit, but I think the story would have flowed more smoothly without the distraction of her. I guess I just didn't like her as much without James. Overall, this was a nice sequel. less
