Hello friends and happy Tuesday! Or to my Canadian and UK friends, happy Boxing Day! I hope everyone’s been having a good holiday week regardless of what you celebrate. Well, 2017 is really starting to wind down now and it looks like we’re at our final Top Five Tuesday of the year! As you know, the last few remaining Top Fives will be focusing on my “best of 2017” lists and today we will be concluding with the best reads of 2017. You’re probably thinking “wait, didn’t you do this last week?” Technically, no. What I mean by the best reads of 2017 is literally anything I read this year that was new to me. It doesn’t technically have to be a new release because I read a lot of books this year that were released a while ago, but there can definitely be new releases on this list. Make sense? Great! Let’s get into it.
Here is today’s Top Five Tuesday: Best Reads of 2017!
1. THE LUX SERIES BY JENNIFER L. ARMENTROUTOut of all the series I read this year, hands down Lux was my absolute favourite. First of all, it really solidified my love for Armentrout as an author and has placed her in my top five authors list, which means that I would literally read anything by her now. But what really made this series great for me is how exciting it was and how there was a really solid balance between the paranormal story and the romance between Katy and Daemon. The characters were incredible and I love both protagonists so much. And I never thought I’d read, let alone love, a series about aliens but here I am. Armentrout made it work and made me love her and her amazing writing.
2. THE HATING GAME BY SALLY THORNEIf I didn’t include this book on my list then something is wrong because I read this book three times this year. That’s how much I loved it. I think the last time I read a book three times in one year was last year with Off Campus (which I still want to reread again) so it’s not like this is something I regularly do. Anyways, this was probably one of the most cleverly written, laugh out loud hilarious, and beautifully romantic books I’ve ever read. It’s definitely a fun read that can either last you a day or a week and you’ll never be bored by it. It’s amazing that this was Thorne’s debut book because she really set the bar high with this one. I can’t wait for her next book in February!!
3. FALLING AWAY BY PENELOPE DOUGLASSmall confession, I initially read Bully because I was in desperate need of a bad boy book to satisfy my kink and a friend recommended that one to me and I enjoyed it a lot so I decided to continue with the series. This book, however, satisfied my need for a bad boy so much more than Bully. There was a lot of heat here, sure, but there was also a lot of meaning and deepness to this book, for both characters, that made me appreciate it so much more than its predecessor. I also enjoyed the split POV aspect of the writing but it was such a great story in my opinion. The development of both Jax and Juliet is some of the best I’ve seen in a while.
4. THE FRIEND ZONE BY KRISTEN CALLIHANListen, I love Kristen Callihan. She can never let me down, I’m sure of it. And this book (and the series in general) proved it so much. Out of the entire Game On series, this one is my absolute favourite. I loved Gray and everything about his character and Ivy was such a fantastic female character too. I loved that their story focused more on the friendship and how it gradually moved into a relationship and it was so wonderful seeing how much they really cared about each other. But the best part is that there wasn’t any unnecessary drama at the end of this book which is like a staple in the NA world and that made me beyond happy. I love a lot of books by Callihan but if I had to pick a favourite, it’d be this one.
5. ONE OF US IS LYING BY KAREN M. MCMANUSDid you think I wasn’t gonna mention this one? Come on, you know me better than that. I saved the best for last! I called it back in June and I’m still saying it now: One Of Us Is Lying is the best book of 2017. I’ve read a lot of books since this one and literally nothing has even come close to making me feel as this one did. The writing was fantastic, the characters were so unbelievably developed, the romance was on point, and the mystery was so thrilling it was literally impossible for me to put this book down. I am so thankful for this book and every time I get someone to read it and they love it my heart practically soars. I wish all books were as amazing as this one and I hope that McManus writes more books like this one because I’d love to read more of her words.
BONUS: HONOURABLE MENTIONSThe Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin, Wait for You by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Haven by Mary Lindsey, Royally by Emma Chase, Wonder Woman by Leigh Bardugo, A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab, and Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh.
Well, that concludes the final Top Five Tuesday of 2017! I can only hope that 2018 gives me even more good reads that I won’t be able to stop gushing about.
Until next time,
