This week’s topic is: Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2017
1. Agatha Christie
I read and reviewed two of her books in 2017, And Then There Were None and The Mysterious Affair at Styles, and I started a third but I couldn’t get into it so I’m going to try again in 2018.
2. Douglas Adams
Again, I read and reviewed two of his books in 2017: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. I definitely want to finish the Hitchhiker’s series in 2018.
3. Margaret Atwood
I somehow managed to finish my BA (and MA) in English Lit without reading any of Atwood’s work so I decided that 2017 was the year I’d read something by her. I chose The Handmaid’s Tale because it’s an iconic novel and I truly enjoyed it.
4. Stephen King
I read Carrie in 2017 and it was the first book I’ve ever read by King. Next up is Salem’s Lot which I did want to read in 2017 but I never got around to it.
5. Elizabeth Cary
I’ve been putting off reading The Tragedy of Mariam for a couple of years but I actually really enjoyed the play. I want to read her translation of Le mirroir du monde at some point and perhaps even The History of the Life, Reign and Death of Edward II, or The History of the most Unfortunate Prince, King Edward II.
6. M.R. James
I’m so glad that I was introduced to M.R. James’ ghost stories and I’m so glad I read Ghost Stories of an Antiquary. They’re such wonderful little tales and I can’t wait to make my way through the rest of his work.
7. Madeleine L’Engle
I read A Wrinkle in Time on a whim and I loved it. I really want to read the sequel, even though I know it won’t be as good, and I’m looking forward to the film which is being released later this year!
8. Dean Koontz
I received two of his books on Netgalley for review and I was so excited because I’ve wanted to read his books for ages. I read the first two books in his new series: The Silent Corner and The Whispering Room.
9. Marissa Meyer
I only read Cinder in 2017 and I’m not actually sure that I’ll ever read the sequels to that book. I enjoyed it a lot but I was slightly disappointed by it and I don’t think that I’ll read any more of Marissa Meyer’s work in 2018.
10. Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu
Carmilla is one of my favourite novellas ever. I’ve definitely found a new favourite author in Le Fanu and I will be reading more of his work in 2018!
This list is split equally between male and female authors which is great! I really liked all of the books I’ve mentioned and I enjoyed discovering these authors in 2017.
