Today on 17th January 2018 I am writing my first ever blog. Earlier I was quite sceptic about this new venture of mine but one thing was always clear in my mind that whenever I will write a blog in my life it will always be about my uncontrollable fascination towards my crazy fandoms.
All my life I have been a part of different cult fan communities who have eventually turned me into a geek for my near and dear ones. Today I would like to start by talking about the Trademarks of a Fandom Geek.
Once you join a fandom your obsession towards that is unquenchable. You start digging up everything from everywhere. You suddenly want to do a PhD on it. Videos and reruns stick to certain fandom concerning shows, bands and stuff like that but premiers are good for a person who has joined the fandom for the first time as one gets to know about the characters and people involved in your fandom.
Once you progress in your fandom you start discovering different ships and finally, you find your own ships like for me ‘Dramione’ and ‘Bellamort’ will always remain on top and as far as Game of Thrones is concerned Sansa and Tyrion will always be my first pick.
When the craze for a fandom increases you start collecting all different artefacts which are even remotely related to your fandom and there is nothing that can stop it. You start collecting merchandise, book sets, album records and what not.
A loyal fan is always on a lookout for new information, new videos, new episodes, new interviews, new singles or albums, etc to come out. Once anything comes out you make sure to check the source because no true fan believes in every news about their favourites without verifying the source.
Fan theories and fantasies become an inseparable part of your life. You like some fantasies also you hate some and you can debate endlessly about those theories anywhere anytime. Fanfics are an entirely new and beautiful world. You can find absolutely anything on the internet, it’s quite amazing. You will always run into your fair share of bad fantasies but the good ones will always make up for it.
The fandom is always on your mind you eat, sleep and breathe fandom. You check your blogs, you listen to the music, you re-read the books, you re-watch it but you never get tired of it. For a normal person, it sounds like an exaggeration but its the reality for a crazy fan.
So, guys, these are the basic characteristics of a crazy fan in today’s world but ultimately every fandom is different with different experiences. It is something that cant be put into words. You just have to feel it on your own.
