Synopsis:

The bestselling, groundbreaking Origin series continues with Transcend. Women are disappearing in New City, and the Corporate Army assigns their best soldiers to the case. In a world still recovering from war and death, every woman is needed for the survival of the human race.

Mina Kramer is a socialite in New City. She smiles for her father’s business associates, laughs at all their jokes, and acts the perfect daughter. When she’s suddenly abducted from a party at Baker Corporation, her whole world turns sideways. The kidnappers aren’t asking for her family’s money, the one item her parents have plenty of. With only confusion and captivity in her future, she prays for a rescue by her parents.

Except her saviors come in the form of the all-power Mr. Finn Baker and Poppy Carvene, a tiny sprite of a woman. And they don’t return her to her parents. Mr. Baker decides he wants to keep her and use her as bait to flush out the kidnappers’ leader.

Mina must push her fears aside or dive deeper into them. Does she want to run to her parents, who are safe? Or will she transcend to a woman who fights criminals bent on destroying New City? And can she overcome her startling feelings for the sexy Mr. Baker, a man who harbors secrets of his own?

My Review: ✭✭✭✭

I hope you remember my review of Trigger (http://www.bluecatreview.us/), the first book in this series, back on May 31, 2017. Well, here’s the second book in the series. And book three, Torment, will be out in September! Yay!

This is the second book in the Origin series. I reiterate that point because I feel having read it that you should read Trigger first to know most of the characters and understand the world. People like Godric King and his mate Poppy, his father Theron are from the first book. As are Cassander and Finn Baker.

Finn Baker really comes into his own in this book as it’s his turn to find his mate. The relationships in this whole group are interesting and mostly amusing. Finn and his new mate, Mina Kramer have an interesting relationship. And they must look spectacular together. He’s a very large, well-muscled man with a white military-style haircut and glacial blue eyes. She’s tall, well-endowed with sky blue eyes and long, platinum blond hair. He’s the head of Baker Corporation (weapons) and turns into a white tiger. She’s a history professor with an amazing memory and doesn’t know a thing about fighting because she’s a rich socialite. But opposites do attract. And these two are definitely attracted.

This is a well-designed world, this dystopian Earth. It’s been devastated by a huge war and now this group of very rich men runs things. Godric and Theron will take turns being in charge overall, I guess, since Theron’s on vacation right now. Though that may change very soon. Baker’s in charge of weapons. Not weapons of mass destruction or attack weapons because those don’t exist anymore. Just weapons for self-defense. Each of the shifters in Godric’s circle is in charge of another element, like transportation or communications. Things run very smoothly under the shifter regime. It’s just that most people don’t know they are shifters.

Mina and Finn are hot together and are having a great time getting to know each other. He finds her adorable and amusing. She just can’t resist him, even if he is a monster. Just a prick of the finger will tell the whole story. And this is a story I can’t recommend strongly enough. So why didn’t I give it five stars? Well, if I have to go back and re-read something to understand it and still not be sure of what I’ve read, then I guess it’s not explained well enough for me. And because Poppy disappointed me. Get your copy and see what you think. Book three of the Origin series is due out in September 2017, Torment.
