Last Summer I read the first book in the Frieda Klein series by Nicci French. Although I didn’t really love it, I wanted to read the second book. I’m happy that I did, because Tuesday’s Gone was way better than Blue Monday!
BlurbIn Tuesday’s Gone, a London social worker makes a routine home visit only to discover her client serving afternoon tea to a naked, decomposing corpse. With no clues as to the dead man’s identity, Chief Inspector Karlsson again calls upon Frieda for help. She discovers that the body belongs to Robert Poole, con man extraordinaire. But Frieda can’t shake the feeling that the past isn’t done with her yet. Did someone kill Poole to embroil her in the investigation? And if so, is Frieda herself the next victim?

Wow, this book started off just the way I like it! What’s better than a naked, decomposing corpse? Nothing right? No, all jokes aside, that’s actually a good way to start off a thriller in my opinion: it can’t be too gross. If an author manages to gross me out, it’s most likely that I’m going to love the book! (and this wasn’t even that gross, really) I think that’s also one of the reasons I like this book better than the first one. This second book just had more mystery in it! Who is this naked man and who wanted him dead? To some questions you get the answers, but to others you don’t. And where I normally guess all the plottwists right, I didn’t this time! Well, okay, I saw the main plottwist coming a little after half of the book, but not some minor twists. My boyfriend even heard me *gasp* out loud a couple of times.
In Tuesday’s Gone you get to know Frieda Klein a little better. But only a little though! I’m actually looking forward to the point where the strong, independent doctor Klein will finally break. Maybe that’ll finally make her more human in my eyes. Right now I think Klein is a little too perfect: she’s supersmart, eats superhealthy, has no trouble with waking up in the morning and she can walk for miles. So, she just HAS to have some major secret she’s not telling anyone about. Right? But I guess that’s a mystery for Wednesday. And I’m actually waiting for Waiting for Wednesday to arrive, since I ordered it the day after I finished Tuesday’s Gone!
Overall the story had a great setup and was really well tought through, so my rating is as follows:
4.5/5 ★
