VERA – Good Job No Conversation [EP]

Vera is the nom du plume of Copenhagen’s William Asingh.

Vera’s long-standing production work for the likes of city peers Off Bloom, Liss, …

… and most recently MØ (Vera produced three tracks on her recent When I Was Young EP).

As the producer of choice for everything exciting and emerging from Copenhagen’s music scene today, …

… it should provide plenty of enticement to dig deep on these new solo cuts.

Introducing himself back in the Spring with the laissez-faire, sultry ‘In And Out Of Love’, …

… smartly followed by a second single, ‘Falling’ (featuring Okay Kaya), over the seven tracks that form this EP, …

…it’s a distinct and smooth yet unclassifiable sound – perfectly made to soundtrack both late nights and early mornings.

Vera will perform at this year’s Eurosonic in the Netherlands on the 19th January, …

… with further UK/European live dates to be announced imminently.

The seven-track release was out December 8th via Ultra Records / Ministry of Sound, with Vera (aka William Asingh) explaining of lead track ‘Nobody Else’:

“This song came along in such a lovely way. I met one of my oldest friends in a studio one day and I hadn’t heard what he had been working on for ages. He played me this beat and I fell in love immediately. I went on to do a few things on top of it and a few days later his band’s singer and I met with Off Bloom who helped us do the vocal-melodies. When I got home that day I played it to my girlfriend and she came up with the lyrics for the song.”

The EP features Vera’s singles to date, plus his take on James Blake’s ‘Life Round Here’.

Vera: “Life Round Here is one of my all-time favourite songs! The idea of covering it came from a recent holiday I took, sitting in a bar and listening to all these compilations that were transforming well known hits into salsa versions.
