review 1: Great book really exciting and Tidhar's vision of Steampunk Paris is full of dodgy dealings, and undercover operations. This is the second book in a series but I barely even noticed, fine as a standalone read. The only problem I had with the writing was that the author had an odd and sometimes confusing way of showing who was speaking. I really enjoyed the little references to real and fictional Victorian people such as Harry Houdini and Irene Adler (she's head of Scotland Yard!) littering the book.

... moretching bits of historical documentaries, B-movies of aliens and killers, and a smattering of old classic movies, I think the restless sleep in between would have been full of something like this. It was uncomfortable in the most addictive way. less
