Boyfriend spontaneously wanted to go for dinner. We passed by cafe sushi (30-45 minute wait) and figured that waypoint has a much larger space, so perhaps they will have immediate seating (and they did).
I previously didn’t know there is a chefs table… but here we are! You don’t get a view of the chefs at work, rather, you get the view of the food as it appears at the runner section…
STRIPED BASS CRUDO*
pickled fennel, orange oil, pine nuts · 18
The orange oil was nice and bright, but the stars of this dish were the pine nuts. Nutty, maybe even smoky, they accentuated the bass without overpowering it.
SQUID INK GEMELLI
bacon & mushroom ragout, chunky herb pesto, corn crema · 19
The last time I had this, it had more of a tomato sauce. We were pleasantly surprised this had a corn crema, which added a sweet creaminess to the gemelli. Squid ink and corn… who would have thought?
UNI BUCATINI
smoked egg yolk, pecorino, bottarga · 23
The star of the show! The thing I dream about!!
The way you know that the uni is not cheap is if the uni is earthy rather than sour/stinky/fishy. Fortunately, this passed the test.
CINNAMON SUGAR DONUTS
cocoa nibs, Fazenda ganache · 9
We can’t say no to dessert!
This was kind of like a mochi donut. It was extremely crispy on the outside, but also nice and chewy.
CORNBREAD CHEESECAKE
huckleberry coulis, candied hazelnuts · 9
What they don’t tell you is that there is also caramel corn…
I wish there was more tart huckleberry flavor to balance the mellow cornbread. The meringue was delicious and the caramel sauce added another dimension.
5/5! Typically when we come to this place, everything is above average but doesn’t give a lasting impression. This time was perfect!
