Why do we worry?

We all worry, we all stress. We all say we should stop doing those things, yet seldom do we actually stop. There are many reasons why people worry, the one that I see the most is control. We want to control our circumstances so much that we worry and stress about it. We worry about the outcome, about the future. Yet how many times does it say in the bible, “Do not fear.”?  A lot. The KJV says it 103 times.

Did you know that on average we spend 5-6.5 years of our life worrying?! WHAT? That’s roughly 2 hours a day. 2 hours a day on wasted worries that won’t change a thing. Worrying doesn’t stop things from happening or do anything really.

Another reason why worrying is so bad is because it causes us to be more selfish. When we worry we are saying to God that we don’t believe he is powerful enough to help us, we’re saying that we don’t trust him. Think about it. If you’re husband was constantly worrying that you would cheat on him what kind of a relationship would you have? He would always stress out because he can’t control you, he wouldn’t want you to talk to anyone or even go out of the house because he was afraid you would run away. You would probably feel like you were worth nothing. You would obviously know he doesn’t trust you. Well, that’s the same way that God feels when you worry constantly about every circumstance in life. And God is God! He created you! He knows exactly what is going to happen.

As Jeremiah 29:11 says, ” ‘I know the planes I have for you’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future.’ ” So why do we still worry? It really is pointless. We need to give it to God and remember who we are. When Jesus died on that cross our old selves died with him. So then, it is no longer we who live but Christ who lives in us! We need to remember the way, which is Jesus. When we focus on Jesus, everything else fades. Does what that person said to you really matter anymore, in light of eternity?

The whole reason we were created was to glorify God.

God. The creator, of everything, wanted us. He wanted a relationship with us! Out of all space and time (which he created) he chose us. He chose us and we walked away from him. Before Adam ate the forbidden fruit his will aligned with God’s, but when he saw the fruit he felt a different will pulling him, it was his own.  When Adam ate the apple he decided that his will was higher than God’s and therefore he was saying, “Not your will but mine be done.”

When we worry we may not say, “not your will but mine be done.” but our actions are. I feel so horrible when I realize what I do to God when I worry. Not only did he create us and choose us but when we walked away from him and into our own evil he kept fighting for us. Every single day he aligned event after event so that someday he could send his son to reverse the curse that we put on ourselves.

Most lovers would be content with just spending their life with the person they love, and even then, it’s somewhat conditional. But when Jesus came he loved us so much that he died for us, then literally moved heaven and earth, defeated the greatest evil so that we could spend eternity with him. That’s forever. Nothing could separate him from us. It was unconditional love, it doesn’t matter what we do, God will still love us.

Wow…

Just let that sink in for a moment. Reread the last paragraph if you have to.

And yet, we still have the audacity to act like we are more important, and that our problems far outweigh anything else in the world.

How can we be so dense?

If our God will move heaven and earth to spend forever with us, who are we to worry. Our future is right there. We have it all mapped out. What does it matter what happens here on this earth? We have already won. Our old selves have died and now we live as Christ. Jesus is our identity.

I truly believe that the devil uses worrying as a distraction, to keep us away from Jesus, the one who loves us.

That overwhelms me.

I don’t know about you, but if my God, who loves me that much,  asks me to do something, I will obey. I will not worry; because, I know, I know that whatever he asks me to do will just bring me closer to him.

This year. 2018. I choose not to worry.

I’m sure it will be a major struggle, but I will trust my lover, Jesus. He did so much for me, yet all he wants in return is me. So I will give it to him, along with all my love and trust.

This song that I have been listening to is so precious and when I hear it I usually cry. The amount of love that God has for us is unfathomable. Maybe it will help you as much as it has helped me.

Also, before I show you the song I just wanted to share something that I do when I feel myself worried or stressed out. I find a quiet place where I’m alone. I turn on worship music and praise him. I sing to him and cry out to him. I can’t even describe to you how amazing it is, there really aren’t good enough words. I am so lucky to be able to worship him.

If you do nothing else, please, I beg you, take an hour, or even 15 minutes to kneel before God and worship him. put everything aside and just focus on him. I promise you won’t regret it.

Here is the song.

I highly encourage you to listen to it as you read the lyrics. You can look it up on youtube or here’s the link

So Will I (100 Billion X)

Also I just realized that the link above is the song with lyrics in the video, so you don’t have to use the lyrics below. But here they are anyway.

So Will I (100 Billion X)

Hillsong United

God of creation
There at the start
Before the beginning of time
With no point of reference
You spoke to the dark
And fleshed out the wonder of light

And as You speak
A hundred billion galaxies are born
In the vapor of Your breath the planets form
If the stars were made to worship so will I
I can see Your heart in everything You’ve made
Every burning star
A signal fire of grace
If creation sings Your praises

so will I

God of Your promise
You don’t speak in vain
No syllable empty or void
For once You have spoken
All nature and science
Follow the sound of Your voice

And as You speak
A hundred billion creatures catch Your breath
Evolving in pursuit of what You said
If it all reveals Your nature so will I
I can see Your heart in everything You say
Every painted sky
A canvas of Your grace
If creation still obeys You

So will I

If the stars were made to worship so will I
If the mountains bow in reverence so will I
If the oceans roar Your greatness so will I
For if everything exists to lift You high so will I
If the wind goes where You send it so will I
If the rocks cry out in silence so will I
If the sum of all our praises still falls shy
Then we’ll sing again a hundred billion times

God of salvation
You chased down my heart
Through all of my failure and pride
On a hill You created
The light of the world
Abandoned in darkness to die

And as You speak
A hundred billion failures disappear
Where You lost Your life so I could find it here
If You left the grave behind You so will I
I can see Your heart in everything You’ve done
Every part designed in a work of art called love
If You gladly chose surrender

so will I

I can see Your heart
Eight billion different ways
Every precious one
A child You died to save
If You gave Your life to love them

so will I

Like You would again a hundred billion times
But what measure could amount to Your desire
You’re the One who never leaves the one behind
