review 1: Want a great adventure story with sasquatch, circus performers, a train beyond imagination, and murder? Then this is the book for you! Will Everett and his mom live in a small apartment with little money while awaiting his father's arrival after he helped finish building the new rail line. What Will doesn't realize is that steps he takes that day will lead to surprising events three years down the line, including: his family is now well off financially, he is taking the train trip of a lifetime, he is trying to avoid being murdered, and he helps the owner of a circus commit a crime. Oppel once again writes a magical tale that blends reality and fantasy as well as some steampunk.
review 2: A charming mixture of old western/railroad times with a bit of magic
... more and supernatural elements, this book is hard to categorize. The setting is Canada and follows the life of Will and his connection to the railroad. Will wants an adventure of his own and finds it on the Boundless, the longest train in the world. The relationships between Will, his father, and his budding relationship with a young circus performer is interesting to watch evolve. There are some really good bad guys that the reader loves to hate and lots of action. I would recommend this book to 6th grade and up. less

Wonderfully exciting adventure story! Great characters. Steampunk at its best.
