I was drawn in by this title and cover one day at the Library, so I decided to give it a try. I was vaguely familiar with some of Inman’s work, but not so much that I could place my finger specifically on what. (If that makes sense?) I was excited to read this one, as crude comics rarely cease to entertain me.
However, with this one, I definitely feel like I was nowhere near the target audience here, mostly because of the way this book depicts women. I nearly gave up on this one and would have if the appearances of females were not so spaced out. I was consistently offended by this book over and over until I was ready to pull out my hair. This book is so incredibly sexist I don’t even want to discuss it, because I would just be exhausted by the end. Literally every woman that appeared was depicted as a flighty airhead that wasn’t worth the author’s time or energy. I just wanted to be like, dude, if this many women have had issues with you, maybe consider that they’re not the problem.
Like I said, I don’t want to go into that much detail, so, once again, I’ll just say that I am in no way the target audience of these comics.
The other thing that caused my dislike for this collection was the repetitiveness that lulled me into a bored state while reading. Most of these comics were incredibly similar and the content got old short of after a while. By the half way mark I was ready for a nap. Things weren’t as funny anymore. The repetitive nature of everything sucked much of the humor out quickly.
Then again, I felt that there wasn’t much humor there to begin with. These comics are so crude to the point they’re just weird and unfunny. And, believe me, I know what I’m talking about: crude is my life blood. This complaint is coming from someone who watches cartoons like Rick & Morty, American Dad, and Archer and also thrives on It’s Always Sunny in Philidalphia. Crude humor is what I live for. This is not crude humor; this is just uncomfortable. Many times I found myself cringing instead of laughing.
As I’ve said, this comic collection just wasn’t my thing. Overall, I don’t recommend this one. It was boring, unnaturally crude, and, to put it plainly, insulting to women. I most-likely will not be reading anything from Inman again in the future.
