review 1: Another riveting true crime by own of my favorite authors in the genre. Phelps delves into one of the most horrifying double murders I have ever read. He gives some decent background on the characters involved, something which is a must for me in a true crime book. The only thing I felt was lacking was the chapters describing the two trials. I don't care for a long, drawn out play-by-play of the courtroom; however, just a bit more info would have made this a 5 star for me. One of the things that I didn't feel was explained at all was one of the prosecutor's lack of questioning regarding blood trail in the condo where the incident took place. Phelp's does describe one of the investigator's frustration with the prosecutor's not taking this route in the trial, but never... more gives a satisfactory answer to why the line of questioning didn't happen. Still confused on that one. Good read, read it in less than 3 days-one of those you can't put down. Love Phelps writing-can't wait for his next one!
review 2: Wow. It never ceases to amaze me to realize the depth of depravity one human being can impart on another. Here I am, someone who couldn't hurt a fly. Literally. And to read of people who can kill and maim and destroy without batting an eyelash...just for the thrill of it. Phelps gets graphic with the evidence in this brutal murder story, but it is a graphic story. He tells the story in a way that leaves you shaking your head in the end ... shaking your head in disgust; in anger; but mostly in sadness. less
