review 1: Light-weight read most suitable for tweens. I'll certainly recommend this debut novel by a hometown author though I was less than "totes" into it personally. (I confess, I was slightly annoyed with Audrey because she's not Meg Powers--not her fault, I know!) Knowing this was a slightly fictional Alice, I was preoccupied wondering which parts of her story were actual fact, but reading the online annotated "Alice--for real" was greatly reassuring that the fictional bits really do seem in keeping with Alice's life. Research props to Rebecca Behrens--and how fun to discover that she clearly enjoyed "Mr.Morgan's" high school music history class as much as I did!
review 2: I liked this book, which combines present day and a bit of history. Audrey is the daughter o
... moref the president (her mother) and has moved into the White House. She feels cut off from her friends and under scrutiny by the secret service. She finds a diary written by Alice Roosevelt, which was hidden under a floor board. Audrey reads the diary and discovers that Alice had many of the same feelings as she is experiencing. less
