review 1: I think writing must be a particular kind of torture. This book was a fine book - solid plot line, clear character development, interesting locations, plot twists, etc...but even after doing everything right, it was just 'thin'. Seems so unfair that I can say there were whole paragraphs that I skim read because the author gave more description than was necessary, but then turn around & criticize her for not going deeper in the writing. I can't say, really, why this book was just 'ok' but alas it just was 'ok'.
review 2: Much of this story was original and interesting. I liked the concept of Lenah, this ancient and strong vampire queen becoming a teenage girl and experiencing the 21st century. Later in the book I had some eye-rolling moments regarding the pot
... moreential love triangle between Lenah and two teenage human boys: Justin and Tony. While Justin and Tony were likable characters (Tony is my favorite), it was just hard to imagine a once ruthless killer of such esteem would attach herself so quickly to teenage humans. Her flashbacks of her vampire life were a wonderful addition to the story and I looked forward to reading these. I liked Rhode's character even though much of his part in the story is past tense. You can tell their relationship was a beautiful thing...“throughout all of my histories I found no one I loved more than you. No one. -Rhode to Lenah". The story ends with a tragedy and quite a cliffhanger. Not sure if I will continue the series but overall I liked this book. less

Mean Girls meets vampires. That ending though - I need the next book.
