review 1: This book was just so so for me. I wanted to like it but honestly there were some major turn offs right from the get go that made it difficult to finish. I find that the older I get the less I want to read a book that is laden with sex and this book not only has it's fair share but the premise of "rejuvenation" of powers for the Eternal Mate is how often they have sex. I think it is supposed to come across as a serious chemistry that has spanned time and many lifetimes but honestly its over done. The other thing that bothered me is the how quickly Shea, the main female character, goes from an unwillingness to accept her Eternal to giving in to her base needs. I love the magic aspect and how it's a modern day witch hunt but the meat of the story just didn't fill my expectat... moreions.
review 2: i LOOOOOVE this book. I picked it up on a whim when it first came out because i love the cover model. im a huge fan of anything paranormal especially witches as i am wiccan myself. First let me take the time to say how much i appreciate the author staying true to the tradition and not just relying on whim or superstition to write about the craft. That aside this is an all around fantastic book. You have an awesome chick who is strong but willing to love, a hot immortal man with a fierce protective side, and an epic adventure to essentially save the world. You have all the elements for a fantastic story so what could go wrong right? Now some author could take a perfectly good idea and still make it trash with poor writing but hastings takes it a step further by also being a fantastic writer. she has a fine eye for detail (such as making some of the Eternal's speech more old fashioned but not going overboard)and knows how to write steamy sex scenes and romantic ones as well staying well away from crossing the cheesy line. Overall i look forward to reading every book in this series and to seeing more great things from this author! less
