review 1: I found this title listed on a magazine clipping in an old file that I must have put away years ago. The clipping was set aside because I thought it would be a good "Will" book. And I t is definitely a Will book! I loved the main character and hearing his thoughts. The drawings and the maps were superb and a great addition to the enjoyment of the book. It misses getting a five star rating because there was a storyline that I felt was awkwardly dropped and never brought to a satisfactory conclusion. At the point in the book where it was dropped, I felt sure it would resurface and resolve itself somehow but it just didn't ! Anyway, at some point This book will show up on Will's doorstep. And I can state that openly here, because despite my pleas, I can't get Wil... morel to join Goodreads! And he still doesn't like mayonnaise.
review 2: This was an ambitious work. The concept with all the marginalia is wonderful, at first. Unfortunately, even if we accept that this is how T.S. thinks of everything, the volume of the marginalia becomes overwhelming and distracting. One might be periodically tempted to skip part of this but you simply can't because key tidbits about storyline are embedded in there. Overall, I loved the beginning. It dragged a bit in the middle. It wasn't always plausible but I could excuse that. T.S. is that perfect age -part child but old enough to get by in the manner described. The end was mildly satisfying. There were quite a few unresolved pieces and alternately there were some odd pieces where answers provided were silly or confusing.Still, it was worth the time and there were great moments! My favorite line - "Never let your work trap you into a corner," Dr. Clair said through the door. less
