review 1: This book is too eclectic for my liking. There is a shadow of happy-hippy mom who should really know better and whose reckless actions did serious harm to the boys. There is Van Hellsing descendants hunting wayward spirits. There are family estrangement issues. Oh, and half of the family is con artists, apparently. There are Indiana Jones-wannabe adventures with gators. There are vindictive spirits, untrained mediums and crazy aunts. There is a hint to the romance between hot-Canadian-student and One-True-Hellsinger. There is a MC’ cousin with affinity to hoard broken toys. There is brotherly affection that can’t decide whether or not it wants to run both ways. And there is emotional turmoil of the romance between main characters who can’t understand how said romanc... moree came to be. And I really didn’t like how Wolf’s mom tried to push Wolf about his relationships right after it cracked because of her carelessness. There are so many subplots that it seems that this story can’t decide what it is about. It’s about everything and anything, and the main plot is somehow lost under all those potentially interesting leads. Main characters can’t decide what they want to do, and what they can do, so they call someone else to further the plot and do some action, and it seems that things happen around them, not because of them. But then – why do they are the main characters? What do they do to make it their story? Worry about their relationships? It’s a bit weak foundation for the plot with so many factors. Just as the final solution is too weak after all the tension from before. There is an end, but there is no conclusion. In the end I liked paranormal part of the story – that was well done (especially little details like Jack the dog). And tentative brotherly affection gave me hope that Wolf will be accepted by those who matters. Yes, because in the family as such not everyone does, and I’m not afraid to say this. Romance… I’d say it needs something more substantial to help heroes understand why they want be together, beyond overwhelming urge to have each other carnally.
review 2: I thought the first book in this series was awesome, but the second book nothing short of amazing. I don't know how Ms. Ford does it, but I am so glad she does! Tristan and Wolf's fight opens up this story. Tristan is deeply hurt and Wolf has run off. They are brought back together when Wolf's cousin Sey has some powerful, disturbing episodes at her farm. Wolf needs Tristan's help. He grovels and begs forgiveness. Tristan is not in a forgiving mood, but he wants to help. This time they are up against a very malevolent spirit, who threatens everyone who lives at Sey's farm. This is a deadly ghost, that forces Wolf to ask for Kincaid family help. His cousin Cin answers the call. What follows, is a nail biting, ramped up thrill ride. I now have a deep dislike for porcelain dolls. The chemistry between Tristan and Wolf is wonderful. The sex is volcanic. The Kincaids are a very interesting clan. Looking forward to learning more about them. I had a great time with this book. I give it an apparition full of stars. less
