review 1: This story follows James Haskins on his first business trip. On top of being afraid of flying he has to go to Chicago with Deacon, a man who is so annoying you just want to slap him. While on the plane he meets Amy who invites him out to a club once he gets settled. Things go from bad to worse for James and when a storm hits Chicago it leaves him thinking about the past and also the future. This was a quick read. I liked the characters and recommend this book.
review 2: I received this book as a First Reads Give-away. I would not recommend this book to any under 18 due to language and character conduct. That being said, I enjoyed the story this book had to share. We follow James on his first business trip and feel horrible for him that he is stuck on this tri
... morep with his uncouth and unprofessional co-worker, Deacon. I found myself forming attachments or intense dislikes to each of the major characters right away. I instantly felt connected to James and Amy and wanted to follow them through their weekend. I instantly could not stand James' co-worker Deacon with his extreme foul-mouth and obsession with sex.The style of this book reminded me of a Hemingway book I read. There isn't a definite plot, you are just following James through his 4 days. You are horrified while James suffers the consequences of Deacon's actions and the resulting disastrous business meeting. You are lonely with him as he spends Christmas morning on his own. You feel excited with him as he first opens the door to the extremely fancy hotel room. Even though he was just waiting for the storm to clear so he could get back home to New Jersey I was interested to see what happened to him during his time away from home. I was emotionally invested in James and his story.Walls has a very descriptive writing style and I could see the hotel room and other places James experienced. He also did a great job giving James depth. He provided insight as to where James was coming from emotionally and why he behaves the way he does.If you are looking for a quick read with characters you can relate to then this just may be the book. less
