review 1: I read this book as Richard Crompton was recommended by Ian Rankin, one of my favourite authors. It is a story for anyone but has a particular poignancy for anyone that has lived in Africa, especially Kenya. Beautifully written it conjures up pictures of Africa at its best and its worst. Violent at times but never gratuitously, it introduces the reader to Mollel, a Masai detective and shows the prejudice and racism existing in Africa today. A fabulous read!
review 2: Story was very interesting because set in Nairobi during the election in 2007. We were in Kenya during the lead up to this election and saw the great enthusiasm of the people for a peaceful change. And then we left the night of the election and followed the violent aftermath. This book has many
... moreinteresting insights into the election as part of the mystery story. The setting, place and time enhanced the story. The author managed to bring in multiple possibilities for the killer and then showed the graft and manipulation of people from all sides. A different kind of mystery. less

This was one of the most boring books I read all year. Gave up halfway through.
