review 1: This was a great little read. About once a year I pick up a book on meditative prayer, either recently wrote or by one of the greats long since dead on this subject. In a time where the world around me is filled with distraction, I must seek to turn everything off and develop my ability to just listen. Jesus says My sheep know my voice and I know them...this book brings back to me the basics of doing just that - tuning into my savior's voice. I love Richard Foster and the way he writes. This book was also a bonus for me because I found out about Richard Rolle, who experienced in the middle ages the same physical manifestations that I get. I finally found someone who knows what I have felt!!
review 2: There are many amazing books on prayer and meditative p... morerayer. I would rate this as one of the most useful modern books for a number of reasons. It is short which means you can stop reading and start listening sooner. It covers all the basics with great flair. The first section lays foundations, the second gives the "how to"(although that is not an adequate phrase for meditative prayer), while the third section covers practicalities, problems, and questions. Given these qualities it is also a tremendous review which is what I used it for in my second or third reading of this book. I did a bunch of underlining which will allow me some quick reminders in the future. Highly recommended!! less
