review 1: Very useful book. Perhaps not the smoothest read, but very necessary. Simply put, the Chinese communist party is not what you think it is. It's not necessarily better or worse, just different. Practically hard to call communist, but not sure what else to call it. Anyone familiar with American machine politics from the mid 19th to mid 20th century, will find uncomfortable similarities. LOTS of corruption, lots of wealth, lots of control, but all in ways that are "different."
review 2: I have a much better understanding of China, and how its secretive communist government works and adapts to our changing world -- far better than the former Soviet Union did -- after reading this fascinating book. This is a must-read for ethnocentric Americans and other Weste
... morern countries who think the Democratic way is the only way and the right way. No matter what our view is, one thing is clear: China and its "Party" aren't going away anytime soon. less

Somewhat informative, but not really that great, unless you know little about China.

A good book to look beyond the wall of Zhongnanhai and lines of Qiushi's essays.
