review 1: Richard Wagamese is a terrific writer. He also knuckled me under with the stories of the residential schools and contrasted it with the power of skating and hockey, wind on the face, freedom in the speed and grace. I am particularly moved that about the story arc of the main character, Saul Indian Horse. What happens to him as he grows into adulthood is so believable. There's a compound tragedy there but, instead of focussing on the "what could have been," the book takes us to a different shade of hope, a realistic and moving shade of hope. I highly recommend this book.

Wonderful book that read more like an autobiography than fiction. Very moving and thought provoking.
