review 1: Another well written book by Atkinson. Clear, clean and consistent narrative. Although he is writing about events that have been more than well documented he is able to include new and interesting facts, stories and anecdotes that enhance your knowledge of the campaigns in northwest Europe during 44- 45. As an aside, my first edition printing by Henry Holt Publishing has completely come apart at the binding.
review 2: This is a magnificent tale of the War in Europe in World War II from D-Day to the end. It is a perfect mix of strategy, overview of leaders, on the ground stories and then of intimate pictures. This is the third part of a superb trilogy and each was excelling. A must read for all World War II buffs. I am reminded of Bruce Catton’s Civil War Hi... morestory, also a trilogy. This is a superb achievement. less
