review 1: Published in "coffee table book" format, this book provides a very well thought out set of snap shots, with illustrations, into the world of Big Data and its impacts and applications to people's lives today and in the very near future. I thoroughly enjoyed the varied topics discussed - these topics ranged from medical impacts derived from Big Data and related technologies to how advertising is changing from single message broadcast broadly to specific target ads directed real-time to individuals. This is a quick, enjoyable, and important read for anyone not fully aware yet just what "Big Data" means to us as people and to society as a whole. Recommended!
review 2: I was interested in the research project where trackers were placed on items put in recycling b
... moreins in Seattle to trace what happened to them. The results showed that 95% of stuff was recycled locally but that 5% of items (mostly e-waste) was shipped very inefficiently all over the globe. It would be great if all U.S. cities undertook this investigation. I often am worried that the effort I put into recycling in Chicago has questionable results. less
