Supernatural Bounty Hunters
review 1: "The Warlock's Secret" is the third installment of RJ Scott's Supernatural Bounty Hunters series. The central theme in this ongoing saga of politics in a supernatural world, is saving Joseph Sinclair, the aristocratic heir to the vampire clan - whose identical twin Micah was the title character in the first of the series "The Vampire Contract." The only one who can save Joseph is Phin - an elf of equally high status within his clan. While each of these books focuses on a particular couple within the complicated world of vampires, werewolves, elves, incubi, blood demons, and fairies; the larger issue is the resistance movement within this world whose goal is to clean out the corruption of Glitnir - the political center and controlling power. The expanding band of idealistic... more supernaturals - and their romantic interrelationships - is made slightly confusing by the fact that they all seem to be of of Celtic descent and, in spite of having different supernatural powers, all seem to be young men who appear mortal. And, to add yet another layer of complexity - only certain members of this world have magic, and that appears to be a random gift.It took me a while to remind myself who everyone was and who was in love with whom before the story began to make sense this time around (after only a month or so since I'd read the last volume). But once I did, I got fully caught up in the narrative, in which magic, prophecy, idealism and love are ingredients that make for a rich stew of action and romance. Can't wait to see what happens next.
review 2: 4.5****'StarsR. J. Scott has had my attention with this series of Supernatural Bounty Hunters from the first page! Ms. Scott's world building is extremely fascinating, pairing it with all the paranormals she has favored us with makes for a tasty read. To date we have vamps, werewolves, and now Warlocks with a twist of fae and stir a succubus into the fray. It all started with Book #1, A Vampires Contract where we met Micah and Joseph, twin Vampires with very different powers. Micah is being hunted by their Council called the Glitnir were he was charged and convicted of murder.Connor, a wolf hunter is then sent out by the Glintnir to retrieve Micah and bring him back for his death sentence. This doesn't go as planned as Connor joins Micah as they fall in lust and finally love. The Council is very unhappy, and they send another wolf tracker Declan to bring now both fugitives back and they also send an ace in the hole Levi to accompany him. Levi and Declan have shared a history but when Levi shared his wariness of the Glitnir and the circumstances surrounding his parents death years ago their friendship was lost. Now thrown back together again sparks fly sexually bringing them back to where they should have been. Now the two join Micah and Connor on the trail for a book Joseph is searching for hence book 2, The Guilty Werewolf. In The Warlock's Secret, the fabulous four find Joseph and Phin and break into the Glitnir Headquaters to find a book the Journal of Days that Joseph is searching for. Joseph has `magic" powers and opens a portal to the room needed to find the book. The guards are coming and Joseph stays behind to save the others. We met Phin in book two and now we learn so much more about him. This story is deeper than the first two and much darker. We now meet a mighty villain, Councilor of the Fae Alliance, Ludvik Peitrol. He has magic as well and wants Joseph to admit he shares the same powers. Joseph is tortured without mercy by this man. Will Joseph break? Can he withstand the pain? The best part of this book is the love story starring Phin and Joseph. For me their sexy, steamy seduction was majick. The series is growing and getting better book by book and so we wait for the next sequel to this adventure.R.J. Scott has truly written one heck of an action adventure....The scenes are filled with epic adventures, built over the threat of losing someone in an instant. Bringing in the black magic and the villains it would be a great adventure in itself, then throw in the hott guys and the hotter sensual scenes this series is smokin'.I have no idea how long we will have to wait for the next, but I have to put myself on automatic re order for this one...Review by Gloria LakritzSr Reviewer and Review Chair for the Paranormal Romance Guild less
