review 1: I feel very meh about Monsters In My Closet. On one hand it was breezy, funny, and exactly what I needed in a Friday night. On the other hand there was huge plotting problems and the antagonist was an incubus who raped his victims to death. Now, the bad guy thing wasn't necessarily a problem- I can see other people being fine with that. I just have an anti-rape policy. The plotting was a much bigger can of worms. The beginning was so rushed to be ridiculous with Zooey falling into a magical world like a kid jumping into a ball pit. She even got a gay healer bestie for free! Throughout their story Zooey had no attachments to the plot. Events would happen but she was in no way driving them. By the time it got to the end I had a hard time taking it seriously. All in all I woul... moredn't warn off this book. I'm going to try out the next one in the series and see if the lack of rapist works better for me.
review 2: This story is about Zoey, a wedding planner by profession and all around helpful person to all. Her morning starts out with a scare when she hears noises coming from her kitchen. Armed with a toilet bowl brush, she stalks towards her kitchen to discover her childhood closet monster baking muffins and drinking coffee. He asks if he can stay with her and well, she just couldn't say no. This, of course, is only the beginning! She learns not only are closet monsters real but there is a whole world of 'hidden' people in the world. Her home becomes a safe house, of sorts, for the supernatural and still can't seem to shake her needy ex-husband after 8 years of being apart. She ends up learning she is an empath, which allows her to absorb emotions and use them to decipher and communication with people in need of guidance. Her special gift is recognized by an incubus, Sebastian. Sebastian has tied himself to her and anyone she connects with is in danger of becoming his meal. It takes all her supernatural friends (closet monsters, brownies, dragons, fairies, skunk-ape men and Death himself) to defeat the incubus at his own game. If you enjoy fairy tales, looking for a great break from reality or an 'in between' book, this may be the one for you. less
