review 1: As usual, these books about Slappy don't disappoint. It's funny and similar to a previous Slappy book, but you can't get rid of Slappy. He always gets the last laugh. My kids were freaked out by the ending of this book because it ends in a cliffhanger where Slappy is still at large. We skipped the 4 books before this book thinking that the characters would not end up in Horrorland, but surprise! Apparently they do. This time they don't get to bring along a friend or sibling. It seems that they all end up in Chiller House, alone and against their will.Unlike the Horrorland books up to book #10, there isn't an extra excerpt at the end of the book telling you what happened after they get to Horrorland. The Horrorland story seems to have ended in book #12 The Streets of Panic P... moreark, because it actually says The End on the last page. Starting with #13 When The Ghost Dog Howls, each main character ends up in Chiller House, but you don't know what happens to them after they get there. I guess we'll find out later. It'll be better to read about them in a separate book instead of bits and pieces at the end of each book.
review 2: R.L. Stine has done it again. Writing stories for kids is what he does best, and I enjoy reading some of them.Slappy New Year is another story about Slappy, the possessed dummy. This time, the 2 kids are Ray and Brandon, and Ray is Brandon's older brother. Brandon is also afraid of everything.Ray and Brandon got invited to Horrorland, and while visiting Chiller House, Ray finds a dummy that he really wants to buy and use to scare Brandon with. Jonathan Chiller, the owner of the store, tells Brandon to pay for the dummy next time. Ray and Brandon leave Horrorland soon after, because Brandon was to afraid to stay. As soon as they got home, they find the 6 magical words that are supposed to bring Slappy to life. When they read them, Slappy doesn't come to life right away. Instead, Brandon decides to terrorize his own things because he wanted Ray to get into trouble. Eventually, Brandon gets caught int he act, and he never does it again. Soon after that, Slappy really does come to life. Slappy starts terrorizing Brandon and Ray, so they throw Slappy into the garbage truck. They thought it crushed the dummy, but they were wrong.During Ray's New Year's party, Slappy comes back to try to hurt them. Brandon and Ray defeat Slappy, but that won't mean that he won't come back. less
