review 1: This is a novel based on the life of Grand Duchess Elisavyeta, sister of Empress Aleksandra of Russia. It is the third of a series of books I read by Robert Alexander about the Russian Revolution. I loved this one the best because it tells the story of a royal personage who relinquishes all and takes on the life of servitude to Christ. That's the reason for the title of the book. She was A Bride of Christ. The strength, courage, and unselfishness this woman showed is astonishing. Unfortunately, the Russian Revolutionists still saw her royal blood as a threat and killed her. She was later canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church. This is a book well worth reading.
review 2: This is the story of the Russian Revolution, told from alternating viewpoints. One vie
... morewpoint is that of Ella, or the Grand Duchess Elisavyeta. The other viewpoint is that of Pavel, a poor man. The author incorporates many historical documents, such as actual letters and interviews. I really enjoyed that. However, I just never became interested in either of the two main characters. Perhaps there was not enough background established. Despite the fact that Elisavyeta actually existed, she felt like an under-developed character in this story. less
