review 1: I travel by Night is an Outstanding novella from Robert MCcammon that shows he has not lost his touch for writing horror fiction.Trevor Lawson was a confederate soldier in the American Civil War,when he is bitten by a vampire.hanging on to his humanity he is driven to kill the vampire who tried to turn him. With plenty of backfill a likeable protaganist in Trevor Lawton and plenty of action.According to the authors blog this book is the first in a series,I for one will be reading the next one.
review 2: A vampire, the need to be human, New Orleans... Did I just read an Anne Rice novel? Well... no. The writing was much better, less whining and religious pontification, and I actually cared about the characters. Trevor Lawson is a vampire in New Orleans in 1886. H
... moreis one desire... to find the vampire who made him so that he may become human again. His life at the moment, as an adventurer, seeking tasks others might find unusual or unnatural. McCammon writes Lawson as human as he can but the narrative contains some old rote vampire legends which still come across as stale (fear of the sun, needing the warm blood, silver bullets). I enjoyed the story, though, and at less than 200 pages it was a quick read. The sequel, according to McCammon, should be out soon. less

I admit a weakness for vampire fiction. This one is fast-paced, a little pulpy but enjoyable.
