review 1: My kids really liked this book, and my husband was intrigued enough to read it on his own after we finished. It was very cute, has great imagery and some good friendship themes. My opinion of a book always improves if I catch my kids playing pretend about it, and the really did with this book. I found drawings of the characters laying around, working drawings of Denki 3000 inventions, and heard a lot of French accents being used. It took us a long time to read, but well worth it. And I think it will be good for our bookclub discussion.
review 2: Science nerd Elliot von Doppler and new girl Leslie Fang receive an invitation to tour his uncle's workshop at the DENKI-3000 company. To their delight, they discover that the workshop is populated by all sorts of ... morestrange creatures, and it's up to the two of them to come up with a new product that will save the company from being taken over by an unsavory group more interested in profit that creating interesting gadgets. I liked how both characters were depicted as well as how there turns out to be a connection between Leslie's grandfather and his restaurant and the workshop. Late elementary grade readers may enjoy this one with its quirky creatures living both above and under the ground. less
