review 1: I am taking a young adult media course to obtain my Librarian endorsement (yeah!)and randomly picked this book up because of the cover. Well let me tell you I loved it! I teach struggling readers and felt that Dust City would be a great fit for my kids. I did a book talk on it yesterday so I'll see if anyone checks it out. Reading the blurb on the back cover prepared me for the deliberate pace. We have to remember that Henry Whelp lives in a gritty town in gritty circumstances...so it's not all that peppy! His father is in prison, he is in Juvie, he escapes to run drugs, and there's a conglomerate conspiracy thrown in for good measure. I also really liked Henry as a character and thought the book had plenty of action. It also was a fairly quick read. Give it a ... moreshot!
review 2: It was a bit clunky in places, but I love the idea and I love the world RPW has created. It is a great spin on a (bunch of) fairytales. I think it might get lost in terms of which audience will read it: it is fun and light, and in many ways reads like it could be a pre-teen novel and yet, the tone, the themes, the subject matter are for an older reader - maybe that's why it felt clunky to me: I couldn't figure out who this book is meant for. Enjoyed it nonetheless! less

The book is a thriller throughout though the ending can be better.
