review 1: So part of what made this book interesting also made it really irritating. The author takes you on a journey through (potential) daily life and introduces what various philosophers would likely philosophize about the way and why of what you do every day. While this is an interesting approach, it had a couple major drawbacks. One being it gives you a bit of intellectual whiplash as the author pulls points of view from all over the spectrum. Another drawback is while much is said there is no conclusion. I think the author was going for presenting different viewpoints to expand the way people are thinking about the mundane, but he never asserts his viewpoint (or any viewpoint) he presents contradictory views but never asserts one as being more correct than the others. F... moreurthermore, the way the material was presented made you feel that 1000 words were being used to make a sentences worth of a point. That said some of the reflections were very interesting and quite profound and their connections into everyday life was intriguing. However, it was an skimmed down version of too many philosophies to give the kind of depth you expect in a philosophical work.
review 2: I gave this two stars, not because it was poorly written or bad, I just didn't like it. I don't know anything about any philosophers. I thought I might learn some philosophy in an easy way around everyday life. Unfortunately this just took daily mundane activities, magnified each action (eg-commuting to work as a competition) and they talked about what different philosophers would think about that topic. It was a struggle to get 1/3 thru this book. less

I liked this book, but was ready for it to be over. A little too redundant for me.

my favorite book that I read in 2012. The chapter on 'the commute' is priceless.
