The Merlin Spiral
review 1: Summary:In the second book of The Merlin Spiral trilogy, Merlin has to keep the young King Arthur safe so that he can later become the great king that he is destined to be. While being pursued by Vortigern, Merlin, Garth, and Natalenya travel north with Arthur to try to get to the fortress of Dintaga. The biggest problem is Ganieda, who has discovered some magic of her own. She wants revenge on Merlin, her brother. With her new found powers, she is also targeted by people that want to control her, but she's a feisty little girl that isn't going to allow people to use her for their own gain. In order to prevent almost certain death, Merlin attempts to sail into the lands of darkness and fight for good over evil.My thoughts:Honestly, this is an epic trilogy. I've already set... more up the purchase for the third book because I must know what happens. There is more action than you can possibly imagine, but still a ton of character and world building. Treskillard has found the prefect balance between developing the relationship between reader and character and keeping the plot moving. It's a book that you will not want to put down. There are really very few parts where the action is not going on strong and there are even some twists that I didn't see coming. Both of the books so far have plunged me into the myth with a new story about Merlin's devotion and faith. I love how it makes me feel like the story is just another aspect of the King Arthur/Merlin myth. It's almost like the stories were there all the time, but Treskillard needed to scribe them down. I can't wait for the third and hope that it is just as exciting as the first two.
review 2: I can imagine this would be a fantasy readers’ dream, especially those interested in King Arthur and the Round Table legends. This series is sort of re-imagined prequel that sets up the well-known stories. These books are excellently written, with vivid imagery and well-developed characters and plot points. Although I am not typically a reader of the Arthurian legend books, and I occasionally found the reading to be tedious at times, I attribute that wholly to my personal interest level, and not to the quality of writing or story development.Merlin shows a wealth of character evolution from the beginning of the first novel to this point in the series. Although he has some issues with self-image and self-worth early on in this story, he works this out in his own time by the end. His betrothed Natalenya, is a wonderful supporting character to Merlin, and I did enjoy reading about their relationship. The interwoven aspects of faith and Christianity help bolster the story throughout, and give great illustrations of the never-ending battle between Good and Evil.Overall, though I would not read again, the quality of this story deserves a 4.Rating: 4HEAT Rating: NoneReviewed By: Daysie W.Review Courtesy of: My Book Addictions and More less
