review 1: A great read from a nurse who signed up to do volunteer work after 9/11. Instead of writing a memoir she did it as a novel. She is stationed in Afghanistan in Bayiam in a remote village where the Taliban once resided not too long ago. She is to help run a medical center/hospital with a doctor and nurse who are Afghani. It tells the story of her life before Afghanistan and then her time in Bayiam and the friendships she makes and comes to treasure. I hope Ms. Gately will do another book to carry on where this one stops.
review 2: Non ho ancora terminato il libro, ho ancora una quindicina di pagine ma non credo che la cosa potrà cambiare.... Devo dire che all'inizio ero molto entusiasta, mi aveva preso molto; tutto questo fino a metà libro circa....Poi boh non... more lo so, ha perso molto, non mi è piaciuta per niente la storia d'amore fra Elsa e Mike e avrei preferito che l'amicizia fra lei e Parween fosse più approfondita, visto che la trama del libro si concentra soprattutto su quello!Non dico sia un libro noioso, anzi si legge molto bene ed è scorrevole però mi ha lasciata un po così.... less
