review 1: I admit, with the exception of Cell, it's been a while since I had read a Robin Cook book. I finished Cell right before I started this. It actually would have been better to read them in the other order. The main character in this book is Pia Grazdani, who is alluded to by George Wilson in Cell several times. George is a minor character in this book, where he is the main character in Cell, and boy has he changed between them. You can actually see how this adventure would have transformed him into the person he is in Cell. Having been one of those folks who purchased our first home right as the housing bubble burst, this book really gets under my skin because the fictional bad guys that helped cause that catastrophe instead of being in jail, are back at their swindling... more best. Whatever it takes to make a buck off the back of the little guy. I digress though. The book has some charming characters, not the least of which are Pia and the hit men sent after her boss and her. I wouldn't normally classify bad buys as charming, but like Tony Soprano, these guys are. They have their own code and live by it. Pia is a dogged individual, who isn't about to give up the hunt for who killed her boss, even if it costs her a future career or her life. And you have to admire that. Unlike Cell though, this one has a hmmmm, fitting end.
review 2: This book was ok. It was hard because the main character was not likable or relatable, I kept thinking that they pay off would happen in the end but it didn't come. The beginning was almost too technical and dragged out. There were a lot of miss connections and perhaps that was intended but I found it distracting and in the end there just wasn't any satisfaction in the story or for any of the characters. The big conspiracy was much a do about nothing, good concept bad execution. less

Good plot, a little wandering at times, but an entertaining read overall.
