review 1: This is the longest series of books I have ever read and I have enjoyed each and every one of them. You know the people and their lives and their jobs. They are like family now and this latest one was wonderful. We have met Danny three books ago but this is his story and about his lost love. They both made mistakes but Danny and Becca find each other again after three years. They are both willing to give up what they treasure the most for each other.
review 2: (Jan) If I'd been reviewing this based on the first 100 or so pages, I'd be hard pressed to give it more than 2*. My problem from page one was Becca. I hated Becca – a lot! She’s a liar – to her boyfriend and to herself. And she’s an idiot – in what world would she think it’s ok to hij
... moreack her brother’s “guy’s week” trip? No way would any guys want her along, unless she plans on being the toy they enjoy at the end of the day (and with her brother there, um, nope). And she had some nerve thinking it was ok to not let Denny know she was coming (although her brother should have grown a pair during the 10 hour drive and called Denny anyway). And are we supposed to be so impressed that she was too “proud” (I guess) to want help or ask for help, instead risking her foot-health by doing the whole bath-down the steps-walk-two-blocks-to-Jack’s? I was so hoping she’d get an infection and have to have it amputated or at least fall and break her leg or her face! And really – in all the VR books I’ve read, people are always popping in and staying w/the good folk from VR. But while Luke’s cabins are considered safe, all of a sudden it’s not safe enough for her to stay in one alone, even with her brother and the other guys right next door. And it never occurred to Denny to maybe see if Becca could stay at Jillian’s, or somewhere where she wouldn’t have to be carried (really – would love it if she’d been a full figured gal who could not have been carried up a flight of steps, especially w/the additional weight of a cast on her foot) up and down the stairs like a child. And really, she couldn’t have asked someone to go buy her some sweats (or as the nurse suggested, go get some sweat suits – ala Sue Sylvester, who is the only person left on earth who wears sweat suits!), instead of destroying her jeans w/a seam ripper? Inconsequential, but that just irked me! And then, on by page 100, she has an epiphany that she’d been an unfair bitch – although I will give her a bit of credit for realizing it – and for realizing how young she and Denny were when their relationship blew up. Too young to handle her carefree and fun college life and subsequent heartache while he dealt with death and sickness and fear and loss. But her behavior once he came home was so incredibly immature – and now she is doing to her new boyfriend what she feels Denny did to her – lying, dishonesty, not sharing thoughts and feelings – call it what you will, but she is cheating on her boyfriend who never did anything wrong other than to fall for her. Of course later on he shows up and is all of a sudden made to be a not very nice guy - I cry foul on that as well.But...once we got past all that, the book actually got better, as did Becca. The rest of the book was Denny and Becca making up, talking, having sex, and Becca falling in love with Virgin River - the homey-ness of the town, the people, the wonder that is VR - and foresaking her family and her beloved warm San Diego and the beach to live in the middle of nowhere CA and build a life w/Denny (which she really should have talked to him about before announcing in front of everyone). I'm sure we'll see them enjoying their HEA as the series continues. less

"The minute I met him, I knew - this is the type of man I expected you to attract..."Becca is at a crossroads in her life. A love triangle is formed and she must choose between pleasing her family or forming a new family of her own. She must choose which life style is her own. Should she move to Boston with the high class laywer who begs to be with her, marry the down to earth small town soldier, who broke her heart but is ready for a second chance, or stay single and fall in love with her teaching career and wait for mr right. I chose to read this book because it has a holiday theme and the Christmas tree on the front cover was just beckoning me to read. The story is easy to follow and does not disappoint.

This was a terrific little Christmas story. Becca and Denny have unresolved issues and when she comes along on the boys' hunting/fishing trip unexpectedly, they quickly realize that there is more than old hatchets to bury. Becca's relationship with the kids in Virgin River was adorable and I loved the fact that Carr wasn't afraid to show the town's imperfections. I also appreciated Denny stepping up and realizing what needed to be done to keep her.

Easy Christmas romance read.
