review 1: Any review I do of a book I've "read" on CD requires commentary on the reader, in this case a woman named Nicole Small. She almost ruined the book for me. Her voice is pleasant to listen to, but she pronounces quite a few words incorrectly. "Piqued" becomes "pickant," "piquant" becomes "pickent" and the name of the poet Yeats changes to "Yeets." She also refers to Isles of Palms rather than Isle of Palms, although I guess that could be an error in the written word. She later pronounces "piqued" and "Isle of Palms" correctly. I'm sorry, but if you are a professional book reader you should pronounce every word correctly. And where is your director? And doesn't anybody listen to this stuff before it gets disseminated? Anyway, the book itself is interesting, although... more not enough for me to listen to more of the Cavanaugh Island novels (I have no idea how many there are). I was appalled when the protagonist, whose husband has been dead for a mere 4 weeks, begins to think she is ready to move forward with her life and starts flirting with an attractive stranger. Really, after four weeks? I know everyone grieves differently but this is a little crazy. I like the protagonist's children and the people of Sanctuary Cove: they are well developed and interesting characters. I like reading about the Low Country, but I won't visit Sanctuary Cove or Cavanaugh Island again.
review 2: Thank God for second chances, love and family are better the second time around. Deborah Robinson moves to Cavanaugh Island with her teenage children to get a fresh start after the death of her husband. Snowbird, Dr. Asa Monroe is hiding out on the Island. dealing with his own tragedy. Will the be able to help each other or will they hurt each other because of their pass. I look forward to reading the next book in the Island series. less
