review 1: This book was definitely cool. With the extensive detail put into this manual formatted fiction, The Zombie Combat Manual is the book to go to if there was ever an actual Zombie outbreak. With every chapter/ section of the book, it gives you viable information with what to do and what not to do in certain situations. Providing examples in a diary style stories, you get to envision what works and what does not work. Just like every manual, the main character is you. Just as the book states, it is for only combat against zombies and not humans, making clear that the book is only written for one reason. Unfortunately, I cannot use any of the information on hand to hand combat since it meant only for that reason, and using most of the contents provided in this manual would be ... moreconsidered illegal if performed against a living human being. But that is one of the only downfalls of this book. The rest is well written by the author and scenarios that he writes are detailed enough that I actually felt bad for a few of the characters. And his formal informative style is well done. The other thing that I had difficulty with in this book is the Font changes. It just bugged me when the format changed from bold lettering to indented in the same paragraph.I would recommend this book to extreme zombie fans or the paranoid hick who believes that the man who thinks that the Apocalypse is coming soon, mainly because it preps you for when the zombies come and you are out of bullets.
review 2: I have read a few zombie survival guides and this is one of the best ones that I have come across. I read a lot of zombie books in general and the genre seems to have more than its fair share of poorly edited and amateurish attempts. I'm happy to say that this isn't one of them as it's very well written and goes into just the right level of detail. The book focuses on close combat with the living dead. It argues that using guns is not always an option, and certainly not always a good idea, so everyone would have to learn to use melee weapons. It does not cover other aspects of survival, but does a thorough job of covering the subject without going into tedious detail of every weapon and technic and becoming boring. The book is well structured and looks professional. The chapters are as follows:1) Disinformation and Misconceptions2) Anatomy3) Conditioning and Preparation4) Weapon Selection5) Combat Strategies and TechniquesEach chapter is interspersed with short interviews with survivors of a past world-wide zombie epidemic. The book is written in the form of a manual but manages to use a very accessible style that avoids a dry text book type approach while remaining serious and informative. Possibly as importantly, the advice given all makes sense and probably would help if mankind is ever faced with the zombie apocalypse (again). Thoroughly recommended. less
