review 1: Literally picked this up because the blurb looked semi-interesting because all my Northern Irish friends claim that NornIrn is "God's own country" so was intrigued by the claim that it was instead Yorkshire. Turned out the title bore no relation to the plot that I could discern. It was a good enough book; interesting narration so you wondered how close his version of the facts were to reality, which is something that never really gets resolved. Slightly tricky to read at parts due to the lack of speech marks and the confusing names of the other farmers. Worth a read!
review 2: I enjoyed the writing, more than the story. Raisin has a really fine style, but somehow the story matter does not quite come together. The ending is somewhat disappointing - not in terms
... moreof the outcome, but how it hangs together coherently with the rest of the book. Having said this, I will definitely be looking out for Raisin's next effort as the quality of his writing is fantastic and the style is highly original. less

Great characterisation. Thrilling. Well jealous this was his first book and he was only 28.
