review 1: It's times like these that I wish I were reading a physical book. At least then I would get the satisfaction of ripping the book to shreds and burning the pieces. I won't go into my whole rant (I already did that verbally to a friend) but I will say that I'm thoroughly disgusted and mad as hell about the complete change in Vivian's personality. In the first book she was strong and assured. Here, she's insecure and weak, which is the major source of conflict in her marriage. And she never owns that or takes responsibility for her part in it. How could she, knowing Nikolai the way she does, EVER believe that he would cheat on her? That plot point and all its resulting angst was not just bizarre but immensely aggravating. I was a huge fan of this couple. Rooted for them throu... moreghout all the other books. But the author just ruined the romance for me. She ruined it and that's perhaps why I'm so pissed off right now. I'm considering just dropping this author altogether, because either she likes to mess with her fans, will do anything for another book, or has lost touch with the characters she came up with, and her fans. None of the reasons I can think up for this debacle are good. And I just can't understand it.
review 2: Loved this book. Even though Nikolai made me so angry and I was so disappointed in him in the beginning of the book, I couldn't help but feel his heartache, pain, and fear. I enjoyed the deeper look at the underworld he commanded. I also felt that this was again, like the first book about Nikolai, much more of an emotional and sensual book then the others. Vivian continued to be peaceful and forgiving and I was thrilled to see her develop a backbone and hold Nikolai responsible for his actions. In the end, all is well and they live happily ever after. Anxiously looking forward to reading more in this series. less
