review 1: Continuing on the journey of Owen in Everville, he is met with a surprise when he realizes that someone close to him appears to him to reveal to him the dangers that arose from the results of the City of Worms. Owen is faced with Mallory, a Fron turned evil who has a thirst for collecting power from the element. Owen is now sent off to look for the Third Pillar by the Keeper in hopes of finding a way to stop the war which is claiming innocent lives as the war continues. Definitely one of most complete of the Everville series so far, Owen has a better character development. There is more action and mystery surrounding what is going on. I'm still getting used to the writing style however, it does illustrate what is going on with all the characters. The plot thickens and... more its becoming a more fluent and intriguing read than the previous times. Whats great is that its not as confusing as the first, and not dragged out as the second. This one maintains a fast pace and keeps multiple parts going on simultaneously without being too hard to follow. There was a few times, I had to go back to gather the situation but it was a very rare occasion. A fantastic follow-up to the previous book and the best installment in the Everville series so far!
review 2: Roy Huff does it again, in a well developed action packed adventure that appeals to the same part of me that loves thrill rides, Halloween, and classic horror movies.I always like to read a series in order, but this has enough background that it could certainly be read alone.Descriptions are vivid and the plot well executed in The rise of Mallory. With alternate realities and monsters, I must confess that they are always the biggest attraction for me.The cover for this book is amazing, and the story does not disappoint, highlighting the values of friendship, trust and honour. The characters develop further, growing up nicely in the this book. The open ending was a good decision, as I can already see how the series could go even further. less
