review 1: This book is beautiful in a lot of ways, but I couldn't shake the feeling of it being just a series of unfortunate events. The beginning pulled me in right away - I loved the writing - and then, as one bad thing followed the next, I just chugged along to finish the dang thing. I think the author is talented and can do better. I don't know why she chose to write such a depressing story. I get that life can be sad, bad things happen...this was beyond that.
review 2: I HATED this book - the characters were poorly developed, their decisions and choices didn't make sense (how did Mia become a classics scholar? really?), I took personal offense at the incorrect medical info passed as truth and that the authors clearly hated doctors and likes to refer to abortion as "
... morekilling a baby." Almost comical how many bad things can happen to one person - really, her mom is beaten with a gnome? A bad book on too many levels to count - less

I really liked this book and thought it gave a pretty poignant view of female friendships.
