review 1: If you're familiar with Bleach but don't like the battle scenes that will. never. end. then Rin-ne is definitely for you. It's cute, it's a bit fluffy, and the arcs aren't very long. One-offs are very common and it's a good look at storytelling done in short pieces. And it's everything I wanted from Bleach, ultimately. It's a supernatural urban fantasy in the school setting without focusing on school drama or getting caught up in supernatural politics. Indeed, the shinigami's society feels a lot more Black Butler although much softer, of course. It's even drawn by the same mangaka as Inuyasha and it has a lot of the charm of Inuyasha. I really adore this.
review 2: Yay! What a great read. Of course, it's always a drag to read through introductions and explanati... moreons for a new series, but Takahashi always manages to infuse humor into the situation. Seriously, I'm always laughing out loud. The premise is unique and interesting, and the plot is paced slowly but steadily to keep you engaged. The character development for the main character wasn't really there yet, but the secondary characters were well-fleshed out and humorous. They do bear similarities to her other characters, but it's not so bad as to be annoying. If anything I found the similarities cute, and humorous. I would recommend this book more to fans of Inuyasha, as it's premise more closely resembles fantasy and action than romance(which is why I didn't enjoy it as much), but I see the possibility for romance in the future of this series, and I'm hoping for it. I recommend everything by Takahashi, pick this one up! less
