review 1: While the subject matter seemed compelling, the writing was atrocious and I felt I was reading a juvenile book. Having read "A Long Way Gone, Memoirs of a Boy Soldier" that was supremely written and amazingly descriptive, I was hoping to get the same knowledge and understanding from this book. The writing in "Nightmare..." was choppy and descriptively boring and drawn out. I just couldn't get through the whole thing.
review 2: This is a very well written and moving book. I can't believe that people really go through this stuff. This has to be one of the most riveting stories I have ever read. What Edgar goes through is unbearable. I could not put the book down until I finished reading it. This story is a battle between good and evil. Most of the characters were
... more good and genuine and his friends were so devoted to finding him that I couldn't help but like them. I hope that most people read this book to educate themselves about the ills of war and modern slavery. less
